Great Gut Health for a Good Night's Rest

1/18/2019

It may be hard to believe but the 100 trillion little microbes in our gut  - our Gut Microbiome - are sometimes to blame for our sleep troubles. Surprisingly, the gut has over 30 types of neurotransmitters, like the ones found in our brain, sending multiple signals throughout our body.  For this reason we often call the gut “the second brain”.

Serotonin and melatonin are two of the main neurotransmitters that help regulate your body’s sleep cycle – or circadian rhythm. Serotonin is involved in wakefulness, triggering sleep and in our very valuable REM sleep. It is also the building block of melatonin – which is associated with sleep onset and the sleep/wake cycle. Amazingly a whopping 90% of your serotonin is produced in your gut. Research is also showing that our gut is actually the main source of melatonin production, in fact 400 times more than the pineal gland in the brain. Good bugs in the gut are also known to produce GABA, another neurotransmitter which can help calm you into a deep sleep.

A further advantage of nurturing your gut health - beneficial bacteria in your gut can also lower your stress hormone, cortisol, which interferes with sleep when elevated.

So if healthy sleep with restful nights are elusive for you, tackling gut health may be one key that you’ve been missing.

Some common causes of poor gut health can include a diet and lifestyle including sugar, processed foods, gluten, alcohol, stress, antibiotics and antacids amongst others. If this sounds like you then please reach out for help with supporting your gut health. Get Unstuck and On Purpose!

1/9/2019

Here is a guest blog from our Women, Wine & Wellness - Lowry speaker for January, Jayne Sanders.

Everybody gets stuck. Sometime, somewhere, somehow. Taking action is what separates the paralyzed from the successful.

Taking action and getting unstuck requires inner work…discovering and stepping into your authentic self, innate life purpose, and special gifts, and, working through your blind spots.

How can you reach the full potential of your work if you aren’t clear about your blind spots? How can you make the difference you are meant to make if you aren’t being authentic to your core being? Or if you aren’t embracing and using your natural gifts and talents? And especially, if you aren’t sure that what you are doing is in alignment with your innate life purpose? Answer…you can’t!

You probably guessed it, yes, this means stepping willingly into personal growth and transformation. Being willing to look deep inside, find your purpose and passions, and LIVE them! Understanding your challenges, patterns and blind spots and taking steps, even baby steps, to address them.

Transformation can take many forms using many different tools and resources. Several powerful assessments exist to help people uncover their strengths and challenges, and they can be very helpful. All need guidance and interpretation by a knowledgeable, if not certified, facilitator.

Many therapy technologies exist as well, and can be very helpful with identifying blind spots and moving through them. Talk therapy, hypnotherapy, EFT, and numerous other forms.

In addition, several modalities exist to help people identify their innate life purpose. Years ago I was so stuck and unhappy in my work, desperately searching for meaning and fulfillment. Believe me, I tried every modality I could find. And some were quite helpful! Nothing, however, gave me the detail and specific description of my purpose, innate gifts, and blind spots that Scientific Hand Analysis gave me. And I hear the same feedback from many clients.

The experience…it’s depth, accuracy, and actionability…blew my mind! When I took action on that information, my life started changing, in subtle yet powerful and significant ways. (Forbes wrote an article about me and the accuracy of this work.)

This unique technology interpreted for me the blueprint in my hands that revealed, at my core, who I am and why I’m here. My innate life purpose, how I’m meant to make a difference in the world…my gifts to help me make that difference…and why I was getting stuck, along with what to do about it. Woo-hoo!!

Finally, with a little further guidance, I was able to find the work I LOVED and that aligned with my core purpose. Taking action on my blind spots changed EVERYTHING.

So whether you are happy with your work or not, if you are wanting to better your work, your self, your contribution to the world…take action! Don’t stay stuck. Invest in yourself. Waiting for things to change doesn’t work. Hoping for an epiphany doesn’t work. Doing nothing doesn’t work.

If you’ve been trying for years to figure it out yourself, where will you be in another year? Two years? Likely the same place. I was stuck for YEARS because I kept thinking I could figure it out myself. I encourage you to take action, in whatever form feels right to you and resonates with you.

Action is what separates the paralyzed from the successful. I wish you the very best in life and work!

Ready for a Clean Start?!

1/2/2019

Is becoming healthy one of your New Year’s Resolutions? If it is, then you are not alone. Losing weight and eating healthier was the most common resolution in 2018, according to many statistics. It’s easy to see why when you think about the holiday period. It can be rough on your body with all of the excesses that the season brings: food, drink, lack of sleep, additional obligations, stress, less exercise…

Perhaps it is time for a detox or cleanse program to help you create a Clean Start to 2019 and get you on your way to better health!

Why Detox?
The overall goal of a detox is to detoxify the body and restore optimal health.  Of course your body is designed to be able to detoxify itself but natural detoxification pathways can become overwhelmed and toxins can build up in the body. Our environment is full of way more chemicals than in days gone by and it is harder for our bodies to keep up with it all. Matters get worse when we are not paying attention to taking care of ourselves…more toxins and less support for the natural detoxification pathways.

When toxins build up, you just don’t feel good and it can wreak havoc on your health!

Some signs you might need to detox
There are so many but they could include fatigue, constipation, weight gain, headaches, depression or joint pain.

Benefits of a Detox
A detox can be a first step to:
  • Prevent/ improve chronic health conditions
  • Improve nutrient absorption
  • Increase energy
  • Improve metabolism
  • Kick start weight loss
  • Cope with stress better
  • And more…..
As you detox you are allowing your body to function as it was naturally designed to do and you’ll be on the road to feeling better.

If the idea of a detox scares you, then fear not! I am definitely not a fan of the short, sharp cleanse where you are starving yourself and feeling exhausted. These can certainly backfire for many people as the misery and hunger causes a rebound back to previous unhealthy, unsupportive behaviors and lifestyle. I prefer a gentler approach with a program that supports your body’s natural processes for elimination of toxins whilst at the same time teaching some new healthy behaviors around food and lifestyle that can be carried forward. These new behaviors can be tailored to you and your starting point. The goal is to make your detox something realistic where you can feel successful.

We offering a Detox Package that you’re going to love. You’ll get some amazing products to support your body together with dietary guidelines and instructions but best of all you’ll get a session with us to customize your program.  We hope you’ll decide to join us for your detox!
